Port of Moraira
Strategically placed in the heart of the Costa Blanca, the marina in the Port of Moraira is protected by the impressive cape, Punta de Moraira. The facilities are excellent and at Easter each year, the marina is the venue for the Territorial Cruisers Championship.
Port of Javea
On the edge of Cap San Antonio and near to a marine nature reserve, this club has excellent amenities. It has a light sailing craft school open throughout the summer months and at weekends throughout the rest of the year.
Mountain Walking
Visit our mountain walking page for detailed information about walks in
the vicinity of Moraira and Javea.
The Costa Blanca countryside is ideal for year-round walking. Just a short
distance inland are market gardens, orchards and orange groves filled with
wild herbs and flowers. But the rugged silhouettes of the sierras dominate
this landscape - making it an irresistible attraction for walkers.
Tennis
There are many tennis courts in the area, generally attached to residential developments, but some allow non-residents to hire for a small fee. There is a tennis club at Sol Park (telephone 96 574 0612), Teulada has a Municipal Sports Centre with a stadium and there is an outdoor centre at Moraira. The facilities include swimming pool, basket ball, handball, tennis, badminton and five-a-side football.
Fresh Water Fishing
The interior of Spain has many waterways, mainly mountain rivers and streams and enormous reservoirs. There is some very good sport for the trout angler but the best fisheries are controlled and day permits are required. All the reservoirs contain the coarse species carp, tench, barbel, black bass, zander, pike, eels, golden orfe and Koi carp.
The reservoirs of Villajoyosa, Guadalest and Beniarres offer reasonable carp fishing with specimens up to 30 lbs, although the average fish is only about 4 lbs. Villajoyosa also abounds with Orfe and Koi carp. The two rivers of the Pego Marshes contain carp to 15lbs, barbel, black bass and the occasional sea bass. Unfortunately the locals have constructed platforms in the best swims and visitors are not allowed to use them.
Note that a permit is required for fresh water fishing for each autonomous region but the cost is only minimal. All that is needed is your signature on the form and a photocopy of your passport. Licences can be obtained by any Gestor but take about a week to arrive, or you can visit the offices of the water authority in Alicante and obtain a licence immediately. The penalty for fishing without a licence is a substantial fine and confiscation of all tackle.
Sea Fishing
The Spanish Mediterranean coast offers good sport with bass and conger for the beach-caster, especially at night. There are some quite good grey mullet, especially in Calpe harbour, whilst in Javea the fishermen allow anglers to fish off their moored boats in the evening. Fishing is prohibited in Moraira marina.
Parasailing, Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Kayaks, Catamarans
Las Antipodas, based at Club Nautico Les Basetes about 10 km from Moraira on the coast road to Calpe, is a school offering tuition in all these sports, as well as hire of boats and equipment. For further information, telephone them on (0034) 96 583 8310. Parasailing facilities are also available in Javea, in the canal alongside the Arenal Beach, where boats fully equipped for skiing can be hired.
