Benidorm, Spain's largest resort, has for many years been a favourite with the British holiday-maker. Benidorm's distinctive high-rise skyline beckons you to this centre of entertainment, and with so many restaurants, clubs, shops, pubs and bars Benidorm offer something for everyone. There are many good value apartments for rent in the centre, and a great choice of luxury detached villas in the surrounding countryside and towns, especially La Nucia and Finestrat. A few minutes drive away are the popular resorts of Altea, Alfaz and Albir, also popular with northern Europeans.

Benidorm has a beautiful setting with two wonderful sandy bays separated by a rocky promontory offering great views in each direction to Poniente and Levante beaches. A towering offshore fountain adds to the "big resort" spectacle. The old town is centred on narrow streets near the castle, where English-owned pubs and bars are part of the scenery. But for a real taste of the town, head for the nightclubs, discos, pubs and cafes spreading out to the east or the Levante beach, and the Rincon de Loix area.

The Benidorm Palace puts on a fabulous 3 hour, Las Vegas-style show with Spanish dancers and flamenco, jugglers and magicians, together with a live dance band. The show includes the first drink and you can have an excellent dinner. The Mediterraneano Casino is one of the largest in Spain, and includes a restaurant and bar.

For the best views of the coastline, take a boat trip to Calpe. And if you enjoy water sports, this is the perfect place. During high season the cable ski operates at the Rincón de Loix, or you can hire a boat, jet-ski or take a diving course. And there is plenty of choice for mini-golf fans as well.

There are two beaches - the Levante beach to the east with its broad promenade with bars, cafes and restaurants and the Poniente, which is quieter and has the added bonus of great sunsets. Head for the Levante beach if you are looking for a lively atmosphere, where there are countless disco pubs and cabaret bars. The Square, behind hotel Marina, is home to buzzing disco pubs aimed at the younger, international set.
